EXPLORE THE ANTIGEN DESIGN ↗MenABCWY vaccines are pentavalent meningococcal vaccines designed to protect against invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, B, C, W, and Y.
Their design combines a quadrivalent capsular polysaccharide-conjugate component with a protein-based serogroup B component. Specific antigen compositions vary between licensed products.
Polysaccharide antigens from serogroups A, C, W, and Y are linked to carrier proteins to elicit T-cell-dependent immune responses.
The serogroup B component uses selected bacterial proteins and, in some formulations, outer-membrane vesicles to stimulate bactericidal antibody responses.
Different licensed pentavalent products combine established ACWY and B antigen platforms. Their compositions are not interchangeable simply because they target the same serogroups.
Combines ACWY polysaccharides conjugated to tetanus toxoid with factor H binding protein antigens for serogroup B.
Combines ACWY glycoconjugate antigens with a multicomponent serogroup B formulation containing recombinant proteins and outer-membrane vesicles.
MenABCWY clinical trials evaluate bactericidal antibody responses, immune-response noninferiority, safety, and responses across multiple MenB strains.

MenABCWY includes a serogroup B component in addition to antigens targeting A, C, W, and Y. MenACWY alone does not supply that MenB coverage.
Under CDC guidance, MenABCWY is an option when both MenACWY and MenB vaccination are indicated at the same visit. Eligibility and schedules are product- and region-specific.
No. Other meningococcal serogroups and many other infectious or noninfectious causes of meningitis remain outside their antigen coverage.
